LEVERAGING YOGA PRINCIPALS FOR HEALING, CLARITY AND BALANCE
In times of high stress and anxiety, our bodies tend to constrict. We start to hold tension in our shoulders, necks, jaws, or elsewhere. Excessive muscular tension can then feed back to our minds and perpetuate the feeling of unease. When we experience the relaxation benefits of yoga, our physical tension diminishes. A greater sense of ease in the physical body helps to release the grip that anxiety can have on us.
When we step on the yoga mat, we have an opportunity to step out of the thinking mind. Yoga gives us the opportunity to practice letting go of the worries and coming back into our bodies and our breath, over and over. Through this practice we can learn to let go of our worries at other times, too.
When we're stressed and busy, it is easy to let self-care wane. Exercising, getting enough sleep, and eating well can fall off our radar. When we take 20 or 30 minutes to do something kind for ourselves like yoga, we treat ourselves as someone who's worth taking care of. As nice as it is to think well of ourselves, it is every bit as important to actively care for ourselves. I've often found that the behavior comes before the feeling among those of us who struggle to love ourselves.
SATORI LIFESTYLE COACHING
Satori is a Zen Japanese word for the instant awakening that occurs when the body, mind, heart and spirit are in their natural state of balance and harmony.
Satori Coaching methodology helps to increase self-awareness, self-acceptance and inner wisdom by:
- Identifying old core beliefs
- Eliminating physical and mental blocks
- Finding clarity
- Setting intentions
- Strengthening your new empowered perspective
- Becoming a powerful attraction magnet
Satori coaching and tools are designed to support a life-altering process to first survive, and then thrive, through all of life’s transitions. I offer a safe environment to explore core beliefs around money, relationships, self-worth and health. I support you in setting up a daily practice to break old patterns that may be keeping you stuck in past experiences, or uncertain about your future.
Satori is the only coaching program that has its own yoga practice to support your total well-being. Divided into four parts - Physical Balance, Mental Wholeness, Emotional Harmony and Spiritual Freedom - this 8 or 16 week program aligns and balances your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual dimensions. These are the four pillars of total well-being.
COMBINING THE BEST OF EAST & WEST PSYCHOLOGY PHILOSOPHY
While Western psychology seems to reflect an attitude that the individual must be “helped” from without, by another person, Eastern attitudes are quite the opposite.
Eastern systems acknowledge that the individual must decide first to seek change and help her or himself through inner exploration—restructuring and cultivating mental processes (see my Worry Detox program).
Through the process of meditation and mindfulness, we are able to examine the inner workings of our mind and come to understand the nature of suffering and how it arises. We then come to experience a profound change in attitude and ultimately come to a more accepting view of reality.
Eastern traditions teach that everything is impermanent, and subject to change Like the breath rises and falls or the seasons come and go, all things are seen as being in a constant state of transition. This means that we, too, can change. Terms such as nirvana, satori, realization, awakening, and enlightenment are synonymous with our highest state of being.
Rumi’s (a Thirteenth Century Theologian and Poet) view on psychotherapy was to embrace the dread, depression, and anger as a blessing. Negative emotions were a bridge to a better life. This style of coping is illustrated in his poem titled, Guesthouse:
This being human is a guesthouse

depression, a meanness. Some momentary
awareness comes as an unexpected
visitor. Welcome and entertain them
all! Even if they're a crowd of sorrows
who violently sweep your house empty of
its furniture. Still treat each guest
honorably, He may be cleaning you out for
some new delight! The dark
thought, the shame, the malice meet them
at the door laughing and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes because

When we can embrace the transitions in our lives, no matter how difficult, and see them as gifts and teachers rather than situations to fight against, saving a great deal of time and energy trying to "fix" ourselves through outside resources, as we find that the source of healing comes from within.
